Hey, I'm Maya
Maya Shoham
Not to sound pompous or anything, but I’m certain that the meaning of life is to connect, and even more certain that art is the way to do it. Theater and film are my favorite ways to start conversations, to share truths, to ask questions, to think, to do, and to feel, TO FEEL!
I want to create and perform art that defies people’s expectations, of both human nature and what theater can be, art that strengthens our empathy, and art that makes us talk to one another. Even if all we say is “what the fuck did I just watch?”.
Most recently, I played Sasha in the New American Ensemble’s production of "Ivanov" at the West End Theatre ("A start-to-finish triumph", Sarah Holdren for Vulture.) This summer, I'm headed to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with my one-woman show "In Other Words".
